Random apps keep appearing in your Dock even though you never pinned them there
You've carefully set up your Dock with exactly the apps you want, then suddenly there are extra icons showing up on the right side that you didn't add. They appear, disappear, and change based on what you've been opening lately. The Dock feels like it has a mind of its own.
Why does this happen?
macOS has a Recent Apps section in the Dock enabled by default, which automatically shows up to 3 recently used apps that aren't already pinned. It's meant to be helpful but it makes your Dock feel unstable and cluttered.
How to fix it
1
System Settings → Desktop & Dock.
2
Scroll down and toggle off Show recent applications in Dock.
3
The mystery icons will stop appearing immediately.
