You can't drag menu bar icons to rearrange them — they just won't move
Those little icons crammed into the top-right of your screen look like they should be draggable, but grabbing and dragging them does absolutely nothing. No reordering, no removing, just... nothing. Feels like a broken UI.
Why does this happen?
Apple deliberately locked menu bar icon dragging behind a modifier key to prevent accidental reordering. It's not broken — it's a hidden interaction that zero people would ever discover on their own.
How to fix it
1
Hold ⌘ (Command), then click and drag any menu bar icon to reorder it.
2
To remove a supported icon, hold ⌘ and drag it off the menu bar downward until you see an ✕, then release.
3
Third-party icons may not support this — use a menu bar manager like Bartender or Ice for full control.
