The Delete key only deletes backwards — there's no Forward Delete on Mac keyboards

On Windows you've got Backspace (delete left) and Delete (delete right). On Mac, there's just one Delete key and it only goes left. If you want to delete the character to the right of your cursor, that key apparently doesn't exist.

Why does this happen?

Mac keyboards, especially on MacBooks, omit the forward delete key to save space and maintain a cleaner layout. The function exists — it's just hidden behind a keyboard shortcut instead of having a dedicated key.

How to fix it

1

The Forward Delete shortcut on Mac is: Fn + Delete. This deletes the character to the right of the cursor.

2

On full-size Apple keyboards, there's a dedicated ⌦ (forward delete) key in the cluster above the arrow keys.

3

Fn+Delete works in almost every app — Terminal, TextEdit, browser fields, etc.
