macOS only says "Normal" for battery health — no actual percentage or capacity info anywhere

You want to know how degraded your battery actually is, but System Settings just says "Normal." That's it. No percentage, no mAh, nothing useful. You don't know if you're at 98% or 72% capacity.

Why does this happen?

Apple deliberately keeps battery health information vague in System Settings, showing status labels like Normal or Service Recommended rather than raw numbers. The full data is available through lower-level system tools — Apple just doesn't surface it in the main UI.

How to fix it

1

Hold Option (⌥) → click the Apple menu → System Information → Hardware → Power. Look for Full Charge Capacity and Cycle Count.

2

Or open Terminal and run: system_profiler SPPowerDataType | grep -E Cycle|Capacity|Condition

3

Third-party apps like coconutBattery (free) give you a clean battery health dashboard with full capacity, current charge, and cycle count.

4

Cycle count matters: Apple considers battery health normal up to ~80% capacity within the rated cycles (usually 1000).
